What Place is Most Important to You?
Hello World,
My name is José Mota, I am an Industrial Design student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This year is quickly turning out to be one of the highlights of my life. Recently in my Entrepreneurial Product Development course we released our Kickstarter campaigns! Our “Hello, how are you?” greeting to the world. This is the first time many of us have developed a product available to the public. I am no exception.
My products’ name is Meem. It is a combination of the first two letters taken from two words I felt represented this product. Those words are Memento(an item kept as a reminder) and Emblem(a symbolic object). This object is a sterling silver ring with a cutout of a location that’s important to you. This cut out makes clear the distinction between the color of the beautiful material and that of the unique pigment of your skin. This is symbolic, it is to represent that a part of you will always be at that location and a part of that place will always be here, with you. Meem can represent memories(past), people(present) and hopes(future). What is important is that this place is valuable to you.
We all have origin and all have formulated connections with certain places in our lives. What I love about this product is how an outline of a location can represent different things to the person who views it. A symbol only recognizable by those who have experienced it.
I will also be releasing a series of interviews viewable by backers only dealing with identity and the memories people have from the places that mean the most to them!
