Not many footballers can say that they’re a Guinness world record holder, but Nathan Pond can.

The central defender is a club legend at Fleetwood Town, having spent 14 years on the Fylde Coast.

Not only is he a commanding centre-half, but he is also the proud owner of a Guinness world record, having played in seven divisions for the same club.

Of course, he is a record appearance holder at the club, with a total of 429 appearances.

The 32-year-old is now on the brink of extending his world record, as Fleetwood seek a seventh promotion in just 13 years.

“It’s something that we genuinely believe is possible,” Nathan said, discussing the possibility of promotion to the Championship.

“We’re nearing the end of the season now and we’ve just got to keep picking up the points.”

The Cod Army have lost just one of their last 23 games in Sky Bet League One, and currently find themselves third in the league.

They may be six points behind second place Bolton Wanderers, but hopes are still high among the players.

“It’s been a fantastic year for the club, and whatever happens now, it will be our best ever finish.

“We’re nine points clear of the Play-Offs so as long as we do our job, we should be okay,” Nathan laughed.

Nathan only turned professional in 2012, when Fleetwood Town were promoted from the Conference, but he felt the transition from semi-pro was a quick one.

“Obviously I used to be semi-pro and have a different job,” he explained.

“To begin with it was difficult, but I love playing football so I made the transition quickly.”

The Preston born defender is currently injured, but has pledged to make a comeback in time for the run-in.

“I’m on the road to recovery now. It won’t be long before I’m back, and I’m definitely ready for the challenge,” he said.

Speaking to Nathan, it’s clear the passion that he has for the club, and that the nickname “Mr Fleetwood” is well warranted.
