Family of the week with Tricia

Precious family time for me is when I don’t have to worry about getting something done and I can just be goofy with my children. Which doesn’t happen often enough.

We live in Waco, Texas and we have a 5 year old daughter and a soon to be 2 year old son (Sept. 4!).

We definitely use routines in our family. Mainly for morning and night time. Mornings with my daughter are painful and she is the one I pre-ordered our Octopus for. Right now I spend 15 minutes waking her and getting her to tell me her breakfast order. She would spend more than 30 minutes eating but I cut that short or she won’t make it out the door in time. Then she is ‘supposed’ to go to the bathroom and get dressed but usually gets sidetracked and I have to remind her that she’s going to miss the ‘Daddy bus’. The Daddy bus was instituted this summer to help prepare for starting to ride the school bus in August for Kindergarten!

Regardless of where she has gotten, once I have her brother dressed, it’s time for me to help her brush her teeth, fix her hair and put her suntan lotion on. Then she’s told to finish what she hasn’t done, make her bed, put her PJs in the hamper, and get her shoes on. I would LOVE to have the Octopus remind her for me instead!! And I would love to have icons for every one of these things.

I want her to be self sufficient in the mornings. Bed time routine is much less stressful and includes bath, use the potty, PJs on, floss, brush teeth, pick out books and clothes for the next day, pick up toys.

Precious family time for me is when I don’t have to worry about getting something done and I can just be goofy with my children. Which doesn’t happen often enough. :( We like to wrestle on the bed, play picnics, sing songs, build forts, do puzzles, etc.
