I hope your summer is off to a great start! School is out and summer is finally here! With the sunny days and warm weather upon us, it’s tempting to want to sleep in, relax all day and forget about the schedules and good habits we normally follow.

Try these 3 healthy tips to keep your family on track this summer.

  1. Don’t Sleep In

The early bird gets the worm, right? It’s very important that children get enough sleep each night so they can wake up early to maintain their circadian rhythm. Sticking to an established bedtime and wake-up routine helps your child stay healthy.

Encourage your kids to wake up early and make the most of their day. Create a Summer Bucket List with your kids and help them plan their own summer fun!

2. Maintain Healthy Eating Habits

Summer is synonymous with ice cream cones and sweet treats. They’re delicious, but remember that moderation, is important. It’s easy to make healthy food choices when healthy snacks are within reach.

Keep fresh fruits and vegetables available and make them easily accessible. Apples, oranges and bananas are perfect grab-and-go snacks. Keep grapes in a plastic container in the refrigerator so they are the first items to be seen when the kids are searching for a snack.

3. Play Outside

Playing outside provides kids with many physical and mental health benefits. It has also been proven to reduce stress and attention deficit symptoms in children.

Children need physical exercise and opportunities to run and jump, which helps them build strong bones and burn off extra energy.

Playing outside also allows kids to obtain vitamin D naturally. Vitamin D is vital to human health and has recently been discovered to help improve moods and alleviate some negative mood symptoms.
