How to install asterisk in Ubuntu?

Asterisk is an open source software PBX (Private branch Exchange). Asterisk is a free and open source framework for building communications applications which is sponsored by Digium. It Works on VoIP protocols, and doesn’t need any external hardware to work. It turns an ordinary computer into a communications server. Asterisk allows you to make calls to one another which may have connected to other PSTN and VOIP. If you want to create applications and solutions with Asterisk you will need a working knowledge of Linux, script programming, networking and telephony.

In this article we are going to install asterisk 11 in Unix System. You can use any UNIX os like Ubuntu, centos, RHEL or Mint. I am going to explain installation of Asterisk 11 in Ubuntu 12.04LTS.

1) Before starting Installation

First, you make sure that your system is up to date, If not then update your system and install dependencies packages required for asterisk installation.
