Clean & Renewable Energy Electric Devices

Robert Llewellyn, British actor, is best known for playing Kryten on Red Dwarf, but has a passion project called Fully Charged. It’s a web series on Clean Energy devices, like cars, boats, and home devices. As I write this, I am watching one on electric flight. This speaks to why I feel led to write this.

For years now, the Obama Administration has pushed clean energy. I believe this is both good and bad.

The reason this is a good thing is because Fossil Fuels have a limited shelf life. Eventually we will run out. If we can find a solution for Renewable Energy then we limit our usage of Fossil Fuels and extend our ability to use them longer.

Such an example of renewable energy would be electric vehicles. We just saw a solar powered plane fly around the world without using a single ounce of fuel. This plane proved that, for vehicles, this is possible. We can have safe (as safe as they can get anyway) vehicles that run on renewable energy. Am I saying that Solar is the only way to go? No, I’m not. It’s just the most successful example.

Another example is the growth of trickle charge devices. These devices are small, personal devices, like an air quality monitor you can carry with you.

One such air quality monitor is the Clean Space tag. It self charges, via the trickle charging method, via available energy from the 2G and Wifi spectrum. This device, while being a renewable energy device, is also a portable air quality monitor. It’s made by British company Drayson Technologies.

For water craft aficionado's, there is a boat that you can get that is fully electric. This boat is capable of a top speed of 10MPH and can last up to 10 hours on a full charge. It’s a personal craft that you might use on a river or a lake. One of the benefits of this is most docks have electric outlets already, so you can just charge it as you moor the boat at the end of the day.

What all these examples show is that rather than dumping money in unproven areas, we should be supporting successful companies that are using proven technologies to reduce our need for Fossil Fuels.

In our life times, we may never be fully free of them, but as we reduce our need, we can extend Fossil Fuel life until the technology is developed enough future generations can eliminate them all together.
