Trying to get work done. I think I’m getting smarter. Or at least more resourceful. Or at least I understand what people are saying more. I think they keep repeating themselves so that I’ll understand.
Got to work, struggled for a bit. Turns out Google servers kill my jobs because the priority is too low sometimes. Then I got to query my server, which was super fun. Actually though. So satisfying to add things to my table then look at them. Yessssss.
Went to breakfast. Saw some random other interns. Socialized for a bit, then went back to my desk. Skipped a social event to work. Super proud of myself for being able to control myself.
Then we had a team lunch at the fancy restaurant on site. It was super good. I enjoyed getting to talk to the rest of my team. I got to talk to a female on the team who I hadn’t previously talked to. She seems to be a big proponent of women in technology, which I found super exciting. I really enjoyed talking to her. She’s actually a member of an organization called “women who code;” I find it awesome that she volunteers for them in her free time.
After we got back, I had a 1:1 with my host, and she explained an algorithm. I actually had read things she sent me, so I had some background, so I was able to formulate questions that weren’t clueless.
The design doc is slowly coming along; I think it is a project within itself. My host is having trouble giving me data because Google has policies where interns aren’t allowed to view any kind of data from its customers.
Went running. I discovered the lake today! It’s super pretty, and I’m definitely going to run there more. On the minus side, I can feel that I’m gaining weight because running is more difficult now. ☹ It’s okay. I’ll just get more self-control.
Rushed back to dinner with Hai. We spent a long time at Charlie’s and then played Go. I felt pretty guilty that I wasn’t working during that time, but it was fun. By the time I got back to my desk, I was too tired to work, so I just headed home.
