Random Albums that Changed My Taste In Music

I have a serious problem. My obsession with music has taken over most aspects of my life. I don’t believe that I can be sufficiently satisfied.

I didn't always feel this way. Before high school, I found myself rather indifferent to music. By no means did I dislike it, but it just didn't make a significant impact on my life. I can’t pinpoint when it started exactly but I do know what changed for me.

My sense of music appreciation increased once I started to branch out of my comfort zone. Now I find myself trying a variety of different artists and sounds which eventually leads me down an abyss of more and more music. Now I read books about music, I keep journals about music, and I even collect CDs, something I’m very proud of now since my stash is growing daily.

Below, I will discuss some of the albums that have influenced my overall sense of knowledge and happiness. It is my hope that some of the music, if you haven’t already heard it, may lead you down the slippery slope as well. (By no means is this a favorite album list. I wouldn't even know where to begin if I tried that. Consider this a very very small sample.)

The ‘Raindrop’ Prelude is one of the greatest pieces of music ever. Chopin made me love the piano.
I grew up loving James Bond films. I have seen every film more than once and I own all of the films. The signature opening music made every film that much better.
Bon Iver, For Emma Forever Ago. I love the mood Bon Iver can create for a listener.
Explosions in the Sky, Take Care Take Care Take Care
The Summer Wind…came blowing in…
For my money, this is the best Wu Tang project. Duel of the Iron Mic, Shadowboxin, and 4th Chamber never get old to me.
One of the first rock albums I truly gave a chance…now I love them. Can’t wait for their new project coming out later this year.
I along with many other J. Cole fans were probably obsessed with this mixtape for months.
My friends know I’m a Joey Bada$$ fanatic…favorite track is 95 til Infinity.
Kanye led me down a huge sample trail with this project.
My mother gave me cassettes to listen to while we drove around back when I was 5 years old. My favorite MJ album may be Bad, but I couldn't deny this.
Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here. It was hard picking just one of their albums but this one sticks out to me for some reason.
If I died with this album playing, I guarantee that I wouldn't even be upset. Radiohead, The King of Limbs.
This album made me appreciate “weird” hip hop. I still don’t truly understand it but I love it all the same. Shabazz Palaces, Black Up.
My favorite Tribe album.
Favorite Biggie Song of all time = Suicidal Thoughts
