I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2006, for the first time. In the last 10 years since that diagnosis, I have been bitten by ticks, too many times to mention. And until quite recently, was given antibiotics and sent home to ride it out. The unfortunate reality is that antibiotics never cured me. They dealt with the inflammation, bravely fought the inflammation, but did nothing to eliminate the source. Lyme disease is caused by a spirochete. And until recently, no one knew how to kill the spirochete associated with Lyme disease.
Now we know that there are 400 strains of Lyme. We are familiar with it’s side effects: nausea, headaches, neurological damage, brain fog, bodily aches and pains, heaviness in the chest, heart disease, ringing in the ears, food allergies, shortness of breath, painful soles of the feet and sleeplessness. But we have not been able to create a Lyme test that truly gives accurate results.
We know that Lyme is international because a 5300 year old man named Otzi was dug up in the alps between Austria and Italy, and when his DNA was tested, it turned out he had Lyme and was lactose intolerant. A side effect of many Lyme sufferers.
I’m here to share my journey of illness to recovery, a path I embarked on in September. I am somewhere in the middle. Next week, we’ll start at the beginning…
