To anyone that missed the first season of my Football Manager series with Famalicão, I would recommend you to take a look on my Twitter account, which is @J__TP5. I’ve done the whole first season in a thread. Here, I will give a short summary of what happened.

Pre-season & summer transfer window

We won four out of five pre-season friendlies and started well to the season. Guga got badly injured though, so I decided to sign a replacement for him. In the end, we made two signings in the summer transfer window. Tropi and Juan Manuel Sanabria both got signed from Atlético Madrid. Tropi came on loan, while Juan Manuel Sanabria got picked up for €650.000. We also let go of Walterson, who got sold to Standard Liège for €550.000.

The first half of the season

We started badly to the season, losing 2–1 away to Moreirense and 0–1 at home to Portimonense. Famalicão bounced back, winning five out of the six next matches in the Liga NOS. After that, our side was rather inconsistent and in the first half, we finished in around fourth / fifth place. In the cup, we went through to the 6th round, while we got knocked out in the group stages of the Allianz Cup.

January transfer window

Racine Coly left us as he did not get enough playing time, which meant that we needed to bring in a new left-back. We loaned Anass Salah-Eddine from Jong Ajax, while signing Riquelme as our stand-in left-back for next season. Also, we decided to sign some youngsters. Elias (Grêmio), Francisco Ribeiro (FC Porto), Ronald (Corinthians), Diogo Capitão (SL Benfica), Andrés Arroyo (Deportivo Cali) and Cayo Tenório all got signed.

The second half of the season

We can be pretty brief about what happened in the second half of the season. We won 14 out of 16 matches in Liga NOS and got knocked out in the quarter-finals of the cup through penalties after Porto equalized in the 89th minute and Anderson missed a penalty in the 114th minute to seal the win.

In the end, we finished in a historical second place, meaning that we would enter the preliminary stages of the Champions League next season.

Next episode will be about July and August, and I will make an article every two in-game months to keep you up to date.
