BOE Meeting

The Hattiesburg Board of Education members were all present Monday morning when they met to discuss the dramatic enrollment loss at the school.

This is the third year in a row it has dropped amid strict rule changes for the students.

Plane Crash

Five people are dead after a TWA jet carrying 45 passengers and crew, two of which were faculty members from Backwater State University, crashed on takeoff at Kennedy International Airport.

Associate Professor of Rural Sociology, John Dumont, and Associate Professor of English, George Johnson, were the two faculty members on board the TWA jet.

Meeman Speaks

Pulitzer Prize winning author, Norman Meeman, spoke at 4:30 p.m. in Room 111 of the William Oxley Thomson Memorial Library Sunday to 67 students about careers in English.

Meeman is a world-renowned speaker throughout the writing community.

Professor Wins Award

The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Force, at a ceremony in Pennsylvania on Friday, March 17, announced its annual George Washington Honor Medal Winners.

Among the 32 winners was Clement Crabtree, a professor of horticulture who was cited for his essay called, “Plan for Peace.”
