It is always fun to read a trilogy which in this case seems to have become an opportunistic trilogy, one volume after the other, so that even the third volume does not bring to submission, in a way or another, the very first Khaki or green-grey aura holder, Pogo the clown, of the very first chapter. He sure is in the epilogue of the third volume but he is not defeated though he was reduced from a main murderer and killer to a very banal ranter and raver. Not inoffensive but just ineffective and as impotent as chicken-fart.

These three short novels are for old teenagers and young adults for sure and they deal a lot with the relations of high school students with their parents, among themselves, at school, in the street, in sports, in the daytime or in the night, dreaming nightmares or experiencing wet dreams, desiring adventures or just running away from repulsive elements, but the Midwestern community they live in is not fully described, assessed, and that explains why there are only a few Latinos, legal or not, in one distant neighborhood, imported like chattel to work in the meat packaging factory. We are among white Americans practically all the time. No Blacks. No Hispanics to be really noted. Colorblind, but because there is no color to see. A vague historical background with the Vietnam war but that’s all and it is surprising for novels published under President Obama that the traumatic Iraq and Afghanistan never-ending wars are not mentioned, especially among young people in a high-school that must be visited by some military recruiting units or have a team of ROTC visiting the school to recruit some students for information and pre-enlisting at least, especially among seniors who are over 18 years old and plan to go to college.

The question of sex is not perfectly covered because it is not really in anyway developed as love, real mental love but is too often reduced to bullying; BmonCs; pressure-conquest; more or less unwanted though at times not necessarily undesired contact ending up in real intercourse that is assumed afterwards as not having been what it mostly was, rape. If love is not shown among adults (and the families are divorce-prone and disharmony inclined and predisposed) and if real love is not explored among these teenagers, except those who encounter great danger and frustration (is it love or solace, consolation?), then what’s left? Not much. But love means love and not heterosexual intercourse only and exclusively, all other orientations being crushed under the carpet as perverse and pedophiliac of some sort or qualification. The only ambition towards these perverts is to get rid of them by simply killing them. Guns are excessively present, ever present, the tool to solve any ill, any oddity, any menace, any danger, any frustration.

Gosh! Teenagers deserve better, be they straight, gay, lesbian, queer, bi- of any sort, trans- of any shade or a- like not determined and not relevant. This community of teenagers is here narrowly locked up on a white supremacist vision of the world to the point of refusing a name for a newborn girl because that name “sounds too African-American.” That makes me ashamed and very resentful against such barbarian people who would not choose a name because it is Black. Luckily there is no Arabic name based on “thalj” that means “snow” like “Neva.” So we have an easy Muslim ban there, but just because snow is not exactly Islamic.

The obsession with marriage among the teenage characters and the banality of multiple successive marriages among adults make this trilogy a wedding or marital guidebook with a slightly perverse killing warp. But it sounds rather limited in ambition and in imaginative invention. Pogo the Kute Killing Klown is a little bit passé after Stephen King’s IT.

But you have to enjoy them as much as you can. You will spend some nice moments of fear, never fright; awe, never terror; and some moments of pathetic empathy for the sweet occasions that are like invasive oases that hide the desert of perversion.

Pedophile lethal clown

Welcome to adventure and action literature for older teenagers and youngsters. If you are slightly more advanced in age than 25, you might find it a little bit easy. You will, as Stephen King would say, see the zipper in the back of the monsters, here human monsters, but monsters all the same. Let me give you one example of the zipper to push aside forever.

Between locations 219 and 254, we find the following statements: “Monday, May 24th . . . fifty-two days since his birthday” (219); “on Monday, May 22nd, fifty-two days after his birthday party” (230); “On the 52nd day after his eighth birthday party, May 23rd,1995” (234); “Fifty-three days. Fifty-three nights. Thirty-three victims” (254). Is it important or not? Yes, if we keep in mind that fifty-two is three times thirteen, and this last number is supposed to be a very bad omen for anyone who is under its influence. Three times mind you, worse than 999 or 666, three times nine or three times six, the Beast in the Apocalypse. There are some other discrepancies of that type but once again that is not that important.

Then what is important?

First of all, the small community somewhere in the Middle West. The economic dimension is not clear but we can imagine the main activities are agriculture with a lot of corn and some food processing industry in the line of meat. So it is a mixed city in the corn belt. Corn and meat, but not that much Bible. Things have changed. We all know Stephen King and his great inspiration about this corn belt, with Children of the Corn and of course The Stand. And that’s only two examples. Corn, in fact, Indian corn, maize, el maiz, el elote or the wild teosinte has always played a very important role in American mythology since it was one of the sacred plants of American Indians along with tobacco (by far the first ritualistic one) and beans, but also tomato, squash, pumpkin, potatoes, and so many others.

Imagine the nine divine or spiritual identities of this plant among Native Americans: Atna (Arikara), Chicha (South American), Corn Maidens/Kachina Mana (Hopi), Corn Mother (Wabanaki), Little Giver (Seminole), Mondawmin (Ojibwe), Selu (Cherokee), Spirit of the Corn (Iroquois), Unknown Woman (Choctaw). And this is only the most important ones. The legends about corn are essential in the same line. I could quote nineteen legends, tales, stories about corn, and there are probably, definitely, a lot more. We could endlessly discuss these stories and the mythology about the creation of the world that is contained in them, but also the dangers, the conflicts, the wars even, between and among these various forces. The one I prefer is the story of the three sisters, maize, beans, and squash. Tobacco is absent because I presume tobacco is not food. That makes these three sisters, these three plants the heart of survival and expansion, of human existence. The community we are speaking of here is surrounded by corn fields. But the connection with Indian culture is lost, hardly mentioned if at all.

The next interest in this community is the clear-cut division between one side of e separation and the other side of the same separation, and this is common in the USA with a river, a railroad, or a highway as the divide. There is the respectable city on THIS side and the less respectable or even unrespectable city on THAT side and we are not surprised that the mostly illegal Mexican or Latino immigrants, most of whom are working in the meat factory and probably in the fields, are living on THAT side of the limit and even at the farthest end of THAT side. The funniest point is that the real estate agent who covers the buying and selling houses in these rather deprived neighborhoods far away on THAT side is, of course, residing in one of the most imposing and even forbidding house on THIS side. The Latino and Mexican illegal immigrants, if they want to live in anything that is not a plain shantytown have to produce a profit for this real estate agent, who by the way is a woman. The infamous landlord is, in fact, a landlady who is harvesting a profit on the back of these illegal immigrants.

Then you have to follow the style of this author. She is an impressionistic writer who lines up many small chapters, most of them shifting from one character to another without a real continuation in time or in space. That leads to some repetitions and that also leads to some fuzziness on detail. But what is important is that after a rather slow beginning the action becomes very swift and dense with the multiple vision that these different characters imply. This is also the result of the particular power Tad has to see auras around the people he meets, colorful auras that represent their psyches. He is thus able to have some “precognitive power” that makes him a seer of the bad things that may happen, centered on a clown, Pogo, who is a very bad and dangerous character, an Id in a way. The colors, like a rainbow, are hierarchized; The best is emerald green. The second best or good is yellow. Pink is not bad but it is verging onto red that is silent violence, anger contained and refrained as long as it does not integrate some black. Black is definitely sickness and illness and probably suicidal. Blue shows such people are indifferent to others, totally cut off from others, which means in a story like this one, blue is not very important since action needs contact. But the worst color is khaki also called gray-green. That’s the real murderous, destructive character in the worst people you can imagine. Stay away, as far as possible, and even so, that evil person will manage to get to you if you are a “person of interest” for him. Note only men qualify as carrying this deadly color. And that’s, of course, Pogo, though it is not far from the high school principal, a certain Puck, whose name makes Shakespeare turn around in his earthen hole or in his urn in Westminster Abbey.

These colors are not innocent of course. We all know that red is the color of bad and dangerous things, the button/switch that has to be pressed in a factory when there is some emergency and you must cut off electricity or start security procedures is red. The famous red button. And it was invented a long time before Eugene McCarthy. It is also seen as positive in some situations like for the uniforms of the Queen’s guard in London. On the other hand, khaki is always attached to military force and military action since the Germans invented the color for the First World War. Khaki has become the symbol of violence, military order and dictatorship and a few other horrors of that type. But clearly, this hierarchy of colors does not refer to any particular symbolical spectrum in any culture for probably a simple reason: the fact that in Asian cultures there are only two non-western words for colors, in Irish and other Celtic languages there are only at the most three colors. This number seems to be also true technically since for painters there are only blue, red and yellow that you can mix. For video artists, there are only three colors, red, green and yellow, that you can mix. And for any security measure based on visual color capture, it is advised not to have more than three colors basically different like for traffic lights, red, yellow, green; or red, amber, green; or red, orange, green. And what’s more in that vertical order for colorblind people who can only see the world in various shades of grey to capture the meaning and be able to drive. That means for me that seven different colors are difficult especially when some black can be added to the red of the angry person, showing his or her desire to become violent to the point of killing if no restraint is applied to this person. Black really? That’s an old western rejection of this color into the field of death.

I find the sexual dimension quite interesting in many ways from the obsessed bully to the totally locked-up bashful virgin, and we are speaking of men as well as women. But the story considers as acceptable only heterosexual relations. All relations that imply any gay element is reduced to pedophilia which is at least criminal (or even the most horrifying torturing of the victims), and fruit-picking which is definitely shown as the default sexuality of a perverse pedophile when locked up in a prison. This very simple vision of gayness is in full contradiction with the extraordinary friendship between Tad and Stevie which is reduced to some kind of sexless virginal and yet disquieting friendship with no possible choice. These two boys are locked up in a world where the two and only two possibilities are normalcy (hence sexless virginal friendship) and pedophilia (hence a criminal activity they can only suffer from some grownups). Note pedophilia is also shown on the side of men for underage girls, though this time it is not “criminal” because it does not kill anyone. It just deflowers underage girls. On the boys’ side, hence Stevie, he is a victim who can only run away from his victimizer to fall in the hands of some even worse fate: “run-away,” “missing,” or “kidnapped.” And we all know what that means after 24 hours.

– SECOND VOLUME — 2013

No blacks, no gays in this Ohioan vision

This second volume is ambiguous as for the meaning and the direction. It is the follow-up sequel to the previous volume but in a way, it changes the atmosphere, the ambiance, the color and tone of the story. It sure is red and full of rage but this red rage is not that present or even powerful, could I say pregnant, as it should be to animate the story that has many weak and soft sections. It is a sort of let down because we should expect in this horrific crime story the rage of everyone to be dominant and pervading.

Even the obvious reduction of homosexuality or gayness to perversion and pedophilia that should lead to a strong straight heterosexual rage is not exploited. I consider that the reduction of gayness to this caricature is regrettable but it is not used as it could and should be used, the starting spark of a bigot fire against both the pedophiles and their victims who have been soiled by the pedophiles in this bigot approach of what should have then led to a debate about it and should have required an important effort to confront this bigotry and expose it. The author evades this responsible approach and not to appear as part of the bigotry that is not ‘exploited she erases it and she even glorifies with a master funeral the sickening principal Dr. Peter Puck, PPP in short, or PDPPP if you prefer instead of exposing his unbearable attitude, exploitation of the weakness of some of the teenage students of his high school to satisfy his lurid lust in his school office. Just as if no one knew after something like fifteen or twenty years of regular abuse. Follow my eyes and think of Weinstein. Sooner or later that kind of despicable harassment or exploitation always comes to the surface. And it is a shame because then the real debate could have been brought to the forefront.

When we think of the re-emergence in the USA of all sorts of bigot movements and ideologies do brightly staged in Charlottesville, it is a little bit unfair to have such a beautiful situation that could have been exploited. Maybe in 2013, it was too early to see that resurgence. But the new publication in 2017 should have questioned the intention of the author, the author, should have questioned her intention and probably upgraded the novel, or simply dropped the idea of a simple reprinting to get a full rewriting of the story.

That makes Stevie’s father, Earl Scranton appear as a killing monster in a way, one victim of the rage to kill on simple motivations that are completely wrong. His sole intention is to avenge his son, without his being told about it and without his consent, by killing the pedophiles who abused him. In other words, he is reduced to a deranged bigot behavior and action and shown as such. In other words, there is no real debate about the relation between the father and the son, between the mother and the son, between the father and the mother. It is plainly described as horrible and unacceptable. The father is reproached with his working too many hours and neglecting his family. And there is a daughter in that family who is mostly marginalized. Stevie’s case is not explored as much as it should have been. It is too easy to say the son is bizarre, did not have the normal growth of a child and then teenager because of his skull defect, because of his father’s distance, because of his mother’s excessive presence, because of all sorts of clichés that should be pushed aside.

That leads the story to some twists in logical and even believable reactions and events. The banalization of teenage pregnancies (among white girls, mind you because blacks and other minorities are absent from the story, mostly and only alluded to as marginal and as such marginally represented as Latino legal or illegal immigrants rejected far away in a distant ghetto in the first volume of the trilogy, this banalization is avoiding again any discussion about why such teenage pregnancies are so present in the USA and mind you in the upper or upper middle class. The death of the just married pregnant girl by an accident, in the end, is like some punishment from some puritan and bigot God. On the other hand, Stevie’s volunteering to cover up the baby of Jeremy Gustafson is incomprehensible, a sort of miracle for a Catholic girl in a Catholic family.

But I just used the word family and it is essential.

The book reconstructs the destroyed family of Andrea SanGiovanni with a short liaison with Abraham Eisenstadt after his wife Sarah has shot dead their two daughters, Zoe and Rachel, and this is brought down to a fatal and lethal end by some heart attach supposedly called a window maker. And that is no window bringing no light. Are those two people punished once again by a fearful and angry God, from the Old Testament probably? The fact that Andrea SanGiovanni calls Charles Chandler to help her out of this silly situation is even fuller with irony, sarcasm and maybe cruelty than you may think. Andrea SanGiovanni’s second husband, Greg Tuttle, was kidnapped by Jeremy Gustafson. This Greg Tuttle had had a liaison with Charles Chandler’s wife, Cassie, who was killed by Jeremy Gustafson, both deposited in some distant cabin, Cassie Chandler buried in a shallow grave and Greg Tuttle abandoned there trussed up like a pig. And then arrived Pogo the clown who cut up this Greg Tuttle into small pieces, thus saving the skin of the infamous Jeremy. Is Andrea thus punished again by becoming dependent on Charles Chandler the husband of her marital competitor? Or is it a promise of a reconstructed family, especially after Tad saved Jenny SanGiovanni from being killed, rescued her from the disaster with Jeremy she had to run away from in the first volume. Is it the announcement of another reconstruction of another couple of two friends turning into a straight marriage?

On the other hand, the Scranton family is completely deconstructed into shattereens though the newly composed Stevie Scranton and Janice Kramer couple is promising a reconstruction from the ashes of the Phoenix. But how can a boy who has been abused by the principal of his school and some of the boys in his classes and then kidnapped by a pedophile, actually an acquaintance of the aforesaid principal, and abused day after day for nine months, how can he suddenly come up clean and positive, save the honor of an early teenage pregnant girl, fall in love with her who falls in love with him though she has been open to many and had never fallen in love at all, to the point of moving to some kind of marriage announced for the next volume? How is that possible? How is Stevie able to forget, erase and annihilate all the negative physical exploitation he has been the victim of for many years? And actually how did he survive for so many years in that situation if there is no positive side to the experience, even if that positive side is crooked, perverse, unethical, etc.? Stevie’s necessarily divided personality is not explored as such and is only overflown by some kind of drone that can only get pictures in black and white, in spite of the colors of the auras seen, by Tad. Maybe here it is only red and white, or red and black. Red for rage, white for purity (like the dress of pregnant Melody Harris on her wedding day) with a lot of double-entendre and hypocrisy. Or is it Red for rage and black for early death since those are the colors of the last shirt of Earl Scranton just before he killed three people out of rage and is provided with an early death by some female mind you police sniper?

Pogo the clown had been pushed aside before the end to keep him in store for the third volume dedicated to his color of grey-green or khaki for killer.

An interesting story but that does not tackle — like in American football or rugby — the crucial questions that are haunting our society and since Charlottesville are disrupting all ethical and logical, human and humane functioning, all covered under the name of white supremacy.

African American name for a baby BANNED

Beware! Readers! We are changing genre, in spite of the title that implies we are going down lower and lower into the derangement of criminal minds. Here the criminal minds are more insane people who have personal demands for human contact more than any crime in mind, even when they come to realizing their desire, which leads them to criminal actions. In fact, there is only one deranged person concerned here and he is NOT a criminal: He is a Vietnam hero who has been left totally destructured and deeply disturbed because of the thousands of crimes he did in this war and he got medals for. The author calls it PTSD, which is nice. I prefer the more realistic Post-Traumatic War Stress Syndrome. How many millions of people are in that situation in the USA especially now with the more recent wars waged in Iraq, Afghanistan and some other places.

She minimizes that disease because it is a disease that is developed in the subject by his own actions ordered by some authority that is military, political or whatever but that is going against the grain of human nature. The result is a totally pulverized personality that may take several generations to be cured when we are talking about a trauma that is imposed on a whole population for a long historical period like slavery and then segregation in the USA, or like the extermination if not genocide imposed onto Native Americans within the frame of systematic displacement to unknown lands called reservations that are not even their own since the federal government can do what they want like build pipelines across these reservations.

This character was of course not helped and healed after the war and he was left to himself and his own care. Subjects with PTSS are not conscious of it and their “logic” makes their reactions absolutely logical, even if it is not a standard human or humane logic. Unluckily nothing serious is done for that man, that carrier of several medals. In the first and second volumes, he was presented as nothing but a pedophile trying to take advantage of boy scouts in a camp one summer and how he was not helped but ousted. Stevie Scranton is one of his victims and it is the reason why Earl Scranton tried to kill him when he came out to get or make justice for his son.

This is never said or developed. These victims of the US government and their absurd wars all over the world, just because they decide to wage them like big boys who have no accounts to give to anyone, is only characterized as a pedophile at first and then a completely deranged man who kidnaps two girls and locks them up in an old railroad carriage buried in some outside boy scout camp in the forest. And the only solution is to besiege the railroad carriage because it is underground and because it is systematically trapped with explosive. And yet in just a few minutes, it is taken and the man is “shot to kill.” No second chance, no questions asked and answered. And the situation is such that no question is asked in the novel by anyone or the author, and it sounds alright, though it is not. A criminal must always be brought to an interview room and to a court. We are not speaking here of a terrorist or a mass murderer. We are speaking of an isolated deranged person who did not get the treatment he should have gotten after his traumatic experience in Vietnam. There is something wrong in the police force of any kind in America, and in the consciousness of all Americans in the US: they consider that anyone who is in a position to commit a crime has to be shot dead before asking questions. And with the second amendment, anyone can do it anytime to defend their property and territory.

Frankly after Earl Scranton spree of killing — and he should not have been shot dead by Rita the sniper — the second amendment should have been brought up to light. That amendment was written when the USA had no army and was facing several dangers of their own makings for most of them: wild animals; Native Americans known as Indians; slaves who have to be put to death when disobedient after whipping and other cruel punishments have not been effective in making them into tamed animals of labor; and of course women who were absolutely excluded from this amendment, when they were not treated as witches or suspicious or possessed beings. The second amendment has to be entirely rewritten and modified so that we could get rid of this ideology: I have the right to shoot to kill anyone who infringes on my territory and property, and for police, military and other uniformed or badged individuals when someone behaves in an unacceptable way in public space, or space open to the public.

The debate is not even hinted at.

The book goes against anything gay again by reducing anything gay to pedophilia. That’s is regrettable and it gives the novel some very superficial and annoying coloration, even a gay joke is used though it is true by two bullies, Stewie Truitt and Zack Porfino, who will be ousted from the Homecoming night, but even so since this bad joke is not made unacceptable in itself but by the fact it comes from shady teenagers, it is not rejected in itself and what’s more it sets gayness as something that has no possible presence or mention in this community, except as a crime, a pedophile criminal perversion.

But the core of this novel is the fact that teenage girls are getting pregnant in less time than they would take to drink a diet coke. These teenage pregnancies are vastly discussed and staged but is it positive to show such pregnancies as normal, acceptable, even if dramatic, maybe even heroic and sacred? The only resistance seems to be coming from a Catholic family and it is shown as being violent and what’s more inhumane, hence it has nothing to do with America represented by a female preacher from the Methodist Church who will marry the two concerned young people on the bed of the delivery before the parents can interfere though they have no legal right to interfere but their moral right has been negated by the young people themselves who are eighteen, hence of age and they have a proper marriage license, but even so. . . What is a Methodist preacher doing when she is meddling with a Catholic family?

But that is only one small detail in this story. Another girl who was four months pregnant did something absurd as a cheerleader and had an accident. She is left brain dead in hospital and kept alive on machines for the baby to go on growing in order to be delivered in due time with a fair chance to survive. And the mother is unplugged from all machines as soon as the baby is born. She dies in a few days out of total lack of nourishment. In other words, she is starved to death. She is not even provided with plain sweetened water for her not to die of thirst. Cruel to the utmost. This is absurd. My grandmother died in her 80s in hospital. One morning she did not wake up and she was comatose. She was simply accompanied to death with sweetened water in her veins so that she died of hunger but not of thirst. In one week she was dead. It is illegal to cause the death by injecting any lethal product but it is humane to make slow death not cruel, even if the person is comatose and brain dead, which by the way would absolutely justify a dignified termination. They shoot horses, don’t they.

But the whole novel is centered on three marriages or three couples who eventually end up married. The first one is The Cheerleader who had an accident and was kept alive till the birth of the child, born with only one parent, the father. The second couple is the Catholic girl who was made pregnant by the football bullying BMonC (Big Man on Campus, though he is rather a BBC, big boy/baby on campus). That Jeremy Gustaffsson was assassinated by some criminal mind in the earlier phases of the trilogy. She was saved by the most molested boy in the story, Stevie himself and in person, molested by half a score of people since the age of ten to twelve, kidnapped by one pedophile and detained nine months or so. No PTSS for him, just some pangs of conscience and morning sickness when he wakes up that no one helps him deal with. And he becomes the savior of this poor Catholic Janice.

The third couple is, of course, Tad the chap who is the victim — and benefactor — of some precognitive power due to his tetrachromacy that is the condition of possessing four independent channels for conveying information to the brain, or possessing four types of cone cells in the eye. In tetrachromatic organisms, the sensory color space is four-dimensional, meaning that to match the sensory effect of arbitrarily chosen spectra of light within their visible spectrum requires mixtures of at least four primary colors. In Tad’s case, he can see color auras around people and that gives him a fair notion of what kind of people they are. And Tad manages to conquer Jenny SanGiovanni who had a crush onto Jeremy Gustaffsson before the tragic event in the first volume that brought her stepfather Greg Tuttle under the knife of Pogo the Clown who was also attributed the killing by Jeremy Gustaffsson of Cassie Chandler who had had an affair with Greg Tuttle. Jenny moved to her own father for six months or so in Boulder, Colorado.

Then we are announced that Janice’s sister Claire and her husband will adopt a baby boy from China. Charles Chandler will marry Andrea SanGiovanni in a month, and it is clearly hinted that Belinda Chandler will marry her high school chemistry teacher and basketball coach Kenny Kellogg, in spite of the fact that he seduced quite a few of the underage basketball player, including Belinda, on the team he coached. Note he is the only pedophile who goes through and is even sanctified by a marriage based on forgiveness. This pedophiliac addict Kenny Kellogg, and be clear about it pedophilia is an addiction, once you yield to it you can’t stop, no reform, no treatment, just shot to kill eventually, this Kenny Kellogg then is, of course, heterosexual and this orientation once again is seen as normal and divine, rejecting all other orientations into hell.

A last note on the name of Janice and Stevie’s baby. She will be named Neva, after a sister of Janice’s father. But the first choice was a typically American name Nevaeh and it was rejected by Janice’s father because it was too African American. This father is both a fundamentalist Catholic and a white supremacist. And that goes unquestioned, really unquestioned, at best hushed up. He is not reformed nor even seriously criticized. He is only as for the wedding circumvented and as for the name of the baby obeyed. Does it make Stevie and Janice two white supremacists? Maybe yes since the community they live in is extremely white and I just wonder if there is even one single black person there. And don’t forget black is the color of sickness, illness, and early death. Waouh!

This third volume is by far the one that goes beyond all limits. And so much so that Pogo the clown is eliminated in the most pathetic and artificial way. He is nothing but a prop at the end of the story saved by a wedding ring box and a cop who left his territory of service twice that evening for the convenience of Tad McGreevy. I find that slightly instrumental in the story; a deus ex machina of sorts.

But I guess it will please standard white heterosexual teenagers and young adults who practice the art of teenage intercourse and pregnancy and expeditious marriage under some kind of necessity. It will also flatter them in their white self-satisfied legitimacy and their anti-gay and even anti-black leaning tower of Pisa. It is definitely a very male phallic-centered story in which women, in spite of their divorces and claims about their freedom and liberty cannot be “free” but thanks to some kind of male savior like Stevie and patient male conqueror like Tad. Save the woman from disaster or besiege her with attention till she opens the gates of her citadel that becomes yours then.

There is so much more to do. N.B. the book is full of music and cinema references mostly from the young people for music and the older people for cinema. That’s only some kind of home decoration.
