Refugees arriving on the Greek island of Lesvos are now stranded due to the ongoing Greek port worker strike.

Due to the huge volume of people arriving on the island, it is swiftly becoming congested and overcrowded.

In a post to a volunteer Facebook page, Gygory Kakuk, a Greek citizen, explains how no refugee can leave the Greek islands, unless it is by plane. As a result, the islands, which have received thousands of refugees, are becoming quickly overcrowded.

In his post, Kakuk warned FYR Macedonia and Serbia to expect a large influx of refugees arriving at their borders.

The strike is expected to end on Friday, but could stretch into next week. An imminent end to the strike is required as the islands are struggling to cope with the huge numbers of refugees arriving at their shores.

It is reported that a record 27,000 refugees arrived on the Greek island Lesvos just last week.

Such numbers are unsustainable and the sooner the strike ends, the sooner refugees can be relocated to take the pressure off these islands.
