Pushing Beyond Your Limits

So many times people ask me about the keys to success. While I believe there are many factors that go into creating a life of success, I always try to emphasize a few key areas when I answer. Honestly, the success equation is different for every person on this planet. It is vitally important that you find your equation and that you make a commitment to your success on a daily basis. Too many people think that success is just going to come to them. The reality is that success is a commitment and not many people are willing to commit to a life of uncommon success. Success begins the moment you make a decision to push beyond your limits. You will then realize that beyond your limits are brand-new levels.

  1. Success will require you to make a commitment. As you know, a lot of people are afraid of commitment when it comes to relationships. I think the same is true about success. Over the years, I have met so many people that talk a good talk about success. However, when it comes down to doing the work, they are unwilling to do the things that will produce a life of success. Everything changed for me the day that I made a commitment to success. Commitment is not just verbal. I have come to discover that commitment is volitional. In other words, it is an act of your will. When you get the will involved you create a winning strategy for success. You cannot be casual about your dreams. You have to be willing to commit to greatness if you want to live an elite life.
  2. You must have a clear vision. When I find myself stuck or lacking momentum I can often trace it back to a lack of clarity in my life. When you do not have a clear vision, it becomes almost impossible to create a life of success. What I have learned is that the more specific you can be about your vision the more success you can achieve. When your vision is vague you are not able to create concrete plans. Plans that are not concrete create confusion. Anything can be figured out but it will require clarity. You must lay your vision out and make it plain. The power of having concrete plans is that it makes you more confident. Confidence is the key to conquering in life. When your vision is clear great results will follow. Remember that people do not follow blind leadership. People follow leaders that have clearly defined where they are going.
  3. You must develop uncommon focus. I believe that focus more than anything has contributed to my success. Often times the successful emphasize hard work and passion. However, they skip right over focus. I believe that focus is what sets you up for success in life. In fact, all my failures can be traced back to a lack of focus. Focus is not the same thing as having a clear vision. Vision is having a roadmap and blueprint for the future. On the other hand, focus is having the disciplines and the determination to make your dreams a reality. Most people live off of adrenaline. While emotion can be good, I have learned that emotion will often lead to the expiration of your dreams. When your excitement is extinguished you must still have the energy to create the life of your dreams. Focus is developing what I call tunnel vision. Focus is having the ability to see farther, go further and fulfill the dream that is in your heart. When you have focus you are able to see beyond obstacles and opposition. Focus sees the finish line. I’ve discovered that focus is one of my greatest weapons!
  4. Uncommon success will demand your all. Do you have what it takes to be successful? What does it take to be successful? Honestly, most people do not know the answer to that question. I have been asking myself those questions all my life. Ultimately, I have discovered that success will demand all of you. Now I just talked at length about the power of focus. When you truly develop focus you will understand that focus is giving your undivided attention to your dreams. Therefore, when I say that focus will require all of you, it takes on a different meaning to you. Success will require all of your mental focus, emotional focus, time focus, financial focus and much more. You will never advance in anything that you do not give your all to. When you are half hearted about success you ultimately hijack your success. I’ve had moments in my life where I felt like I did not have anything left to give. However, since I know the energy that it takes to be elite, I pushed myself and produced even greater results in my life. Successful people never look at how much more is left. Successful people always look at how much more they can give. I’ve discovered that we often hold back more than we give. When you are all in nothing can stand in the way of your success.
