Pornography has always been a touchy subject throughout history. Some people are offended by porn, while others either find it amusing or are simple ambivalent about it. There are plenty of adults though who do find porn sexually arousing. No matter how anyone feels about porn it is different from real sex in many ways, and problems can occur when the line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred.

Differences Between Porn and Real Sex:

Body Type:

It seems like every man in a pornographic video has an exceptionally large penis that is consistently erect. Most of the female actresses will have long legs, narrow waists, and big breasts with clearly visible erect nipples. Often the pubic regions will be shaved on both the men and the women. While this idealized body type may look sexually appealing, it is not a realistic portrayal of either a typical man’s or a woman’s body.

Safe Sex:

One of the major differences between pornographic sex and real sex is the use of condoms. There is almost never an example of a condom being used in a porn video. Not only is this unrealistic, it also can present a health danger to the porn stars. Unfortunately, unlike in real life where safe sex is routinely practiced and encourage, the porn industry has lobbied to refrain from wearing condoms.

No Conversation:

There is almost never more than a line or two of spoken communication between two partners in a porn video. It can seem almost magical that two strangers can not only know that they are going to engage in sexual intercourse, but they also instantly know what turns each other on. In real life, communication is necessary. While quick sexual encounters are not uncommon, most couples need to have open and honest conversations before they know how to pleasure each other.

Portrayals of Women:

Often, a lot of the more mainstream pornographic movies portray women in a demeaning or degrading manner. While the majority of the male population does realize that this is not an accurate portrayal of women, the lines can become blurred for some men. Women, like men, should always be treated with dignity and respect.

The same is also true for many of the lesbian pornographic tapes. Most of this videos are marketed to a male audience, making it difficult for these intimate exchanges to accurately reflect real life.

The Sex:

Even the sexual activity in porn differs vastly from real life intercourse. This includes everything from the oral sex acts, to actual intercourse. Sounds and noises are exaggerated, and foreplay is usually reduced to a couple of minutes. The male actors are always erect, and the female stars are always sexually aroused. Sexual desire in real life, is nothing similar to pornographic sex. Part of the enjoyment couples receive from sex is the feelings of intimacy that are often felt during long extended sessions of foreplay.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about if you are one of the millions who enjoy watching pornographic sex. It can be a safe and entertaining way to become sexually stimulated and maybe learn a few new tricks. Pornographic sex should never be confused with real sex. Just like in the Hollywood movies, these are actors, and these are not real sexual encounters. Sex in real life is messy, and requires communication and mutual respect. Enjoy watching porn, just do not confuse it with reality.
