Always follow your passion

How my podcast audience inspires me every day.

I produce podcasts for the love of the craft. And more specifically, I produce podcasts about football for the love of the game. It’s a creative outlet and a true passion. But doing any creative work and putting it out into the world isn’t always easy. What will people think? Will anyone even care?

Spending hours and hours recording, writing and editing to produce a short twelve minute piece may seem like a lot of work for very little gain — but you’d be wrong. I know that when you put all of your creative energy into something, eventually people will see that.

You get out what you put in.

Just four episodes into my monthly podcast, By Association and I’ve been blown away by the incredible response from listeners. Every time we receive a Tweet from someone telling us how much they love the show, it means so much.

Sure, things like iTunes reviews and rankings help (seriously, they do — review the show) but it’s the simple act of listeners reaching out on social media to offer a personal response that makes all the difference.

Always leave them wanting more.

Positive and constructive listener feedback is what keeps me going. It let’s me know I must be doing something right and drives me to keep raising the bar. And every so often someone will surprise you.

So, never be afraid to put yourself out there. Believe in yourself and follow your passion. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should quit your day job, but if you feel the need to express yourself creatively, don’t let anything hold you back.

And if there’s a podcast that you love (or anything for that matter), take a moment to tell them so. I guarantee it will make their day.
