Volunteering at St. Francis Center

James Mason enjoyed a successful career in the managed health care industry as the CEO of California-based SynerMed. A graduate of Pepperdine and the University of Redlands, James Mason retired from SynerMed in 2018.

Since his retirement, Mr. Mason has dedicated his time to charitable efforts to combat homelessness. In particular, he maintains active involvement with St. Francis Center, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that has provided services to homeless and at-risk individuals for more than four decades. In addition to hot meals and hygiene services, St. Francis Center helps empower individuals through referral services and assistance with basic resources such as IDs and mailboxes.

The center’s operations are made possible through the work of dedicated volunteers, who distribute millions of pounds of food, organize donations, provide administrative support, and work directly with those served by St. Francis. Volunteers must be at least eight years old; children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Those interested in volunteering should submit an application and donation to support the organization’s operations.
