Humiliated, Violated and Killed for the World to See: Who Will Protect Us?

Who will protect us?

From being killed during a traffic stop.

Who will protect us?

When we’re gasping “I can’t breathe!

Who will protect us?

From being tackled and handcuffed while waiting for a ride.

Who will protect us?

From being arrested for simply trying to enter our home.

Who will protect us?

If they don’t even respect the President of the United States.

Who will protect us?

If our words just keep falling on deaf ears.

Who will protect us?

If we don’t say their names.

Who will protect us?

If you, the reader, do not speak up regardless of your race.

Who will protect us?

I’m tired of feeling and seeing people of color treated like an “other” here in America as if she was not built by, and did not profit off of, our ancestors.

By the time this post is published, another black student might be struck down and flung across a classroom floor, another innocent black woman could mysteriously die while in police custody and another unarmed black man will probably be shot and killed here in AMERICA. So I ask:

Who will protect us?
