BALANCING ACT

Life has its challenges. Life has its sweetness, too. I’m making a list . . . .

Lots of news every day. Not all of it is good. World politics feels more and more like risky history, or maybe history mystery. Like — you can’t make this stuff up: these characters, these events, these days. If we wrote it all up and put it in a play or a film, someone would surely say, “Aw, now. That’s too far-fetched. That could never happen in real life!”

I have used everything I can think of to separate the facts from the hype. I am remembering the “Tell Us The Truth Tour” — Steve Earle, Billy Bragg, Lester Chambers, and Tom Morello. I saw the show at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, almost 15 years ago now. Maybe it’s time for another “Tell Us The Truth” movement.

I’m working really hard at keeping perspective, staying positive, and focusing on things I can control; yoga at the gym today; bike ride this afternoon; walk after supper — and there was that amazing full moon, so big and bright and close! Like a present to me! I’ve been reading more, too. And listening to music. Playing some music. And dancing — every day! Sometimes, I do nothing — just float for a minute. And that’s good for me and good for my state of mind!

“Life is all about balance. You don’t always need to be getting stuff done. Sometimes it’s perfectly okay, and absolutely necessary, to shut down, kick back, and do nothing.” Lori Deschene
