Helping Verbs

Bob remembered his 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Campbell.

We were all eating lunch in the break room. This must have been five years ago now. There were not many details on the notes I wrote on the paper towels. But I can remember the conversation.

Bob was talking about “helping verbs.” There are 23: am, is, are, was and were; being, been, and be; have, has, had; do, does, did; will, shall; would and should.
There are five more helping verbs: may, might, must, can, could!

I had to ask how he could remember all of them!

Bob credited his 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Campbell and his school in Longmeadow, MA. I said that I had not heard of Longmeadow. Bob said that it was noted for its good schools. I believe him!
