MODERN MOVIES

Going to a show — it’s different now. 30 min. of intro; 15 min. of credits

Went to a movie tonight — early show. It’s different now. $13.38 for a ticket; $12.17 for popcorn & a soft drink. Oh My Goodness! I was a guest for the movie, and the snacks were not for me. But the bottom line will make me choose very carefully: when do I go to the movies and what do I see?

There were two of us in the theater. TWO. And one staff man who came and went, with a broom and a long-handled dust pan. There were over 20 screens in this complex — whaaaaat? whyyyy? I would LOVE to see the attendance stats on this operation. How can they afford to run this business. What does it cost? How is it financed? How is the investment paying off?

By the clock — there were 26 minutes of ads and coming attractions. And after the first of the credits started to scroll down the screen — fully 15 more minutes, and some of the content was substantive. Hundreds of people worked on this film!

The movie itself was a sequel and a lot of fun. The special effects were amazing, and the 3-D presentation was truly stunning. I thought those things were flying right at my face. I ducked and dodged the first time or two that they came at me. I will probably go back to see it again — just to see the things I missed the first time.
