Some friends are in touring bands. “Livin’ the dream” is a way of life.

Recently I saw a dear friend playing on tour — thousands of people in a huge outdoor arena. I’ve seen him on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, and at small clubs from Nashville to North Carolina. I’ve seen him play on Saturday Night Live, and the Stephen Colbert show. The thing I always notice, and will always remember, is how much joy I see in his face and in his body language.

Tonight, I’m listening to a whole group of friends who are posting their band concert from a jazz and blues festival in Spain. I’ve seen them all in Nashville, and know many of them pretty well.

The lives of these friends — WOW! Exceptional and extraordinary by any measure.

“Life in the fast lane — always a whirl. Pack up my guitar, then hug my girl.

How can I do this, every damn time? Love her, then leave her. No asking why.

We’re on a new stage. With a new show. Line up for the run. House lights get low.

Spot-lights in our eyes. Blood pumping fast. We all love the rush. Just make it last.” Jan Bossing © 2013, 2017
