When I feel things deeply, I will try to walk more lightly. Lightly my darling.
All day, every day — we seem to be surrounded by the lives of others. Sometimes we share their concerns, sometimes we understand them — sometimes, we neither share nor understand the feelings that people around us express. If you watch the news, if you go to class, if you work with others — you will see worries and woe, happiness and hope. It’s good to try to understand what others experience, and to help when we can — to encourage them toward their goals, and to help them articulate their problems and identify their options.
In yoga class, Michelle likes to open the practice with an om. I’m still working on breathing deeply enough to be able to hang with the class until the end of the om! At the end of the class, she presents a quotation or a meditation — right before the closing om, followed by the Namaste.
Today’s quote caught my attention and my imagination. Thank you, Michelle, for reminding me of Aldous Huxley.
“So throw away your baggage and go forward. . . . That’s why you must walk so lightly. Lightly my darling, on tiptoes and no luggage, . . .” Aldous Huxley
