Interesting perspective, and I agree that the message/marketing for the fight against pollution was more effective than for the fight against climate change. However, consider that the majority of the US population lives on the coasts: for many of us, climate change DOES affect our daily lives. My hometown is basically eroding and seeing worse flooding every year-this is not an abstract concept for us, this is a legitimate threat. And the environmentalists aren’t just losing because of shoddy marketing. The industries doing the most harm to our planet, such as the various fossil fuel industries and animal agriculture, also have massive amounts of money to throw behind politicians and manipulate the public opinion. Even though the majority of Americans say they are worried about climate change and actually do support renewable energy, environmentalists and concerned Americans do not have as much power as these industries, especially with the current administration in power.
