#WCW The Final Five: Women Working Together Win
The 2016 Rio Olympics may now be over but the imagery (and drama) of the American athletes lingers as we reflect on Summer sixteen.
One of the most compelling and powerful memories of these Olympic games was the “Final Five,” the gold medal-winning U.S. women’s gymnastic team made up of Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Gabrielle Douglass, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian. They are a multiracial crew of young women who were clearly supporting each other as a team, and as friends. It was heartwarming and inspiring in a world that likes to pit women against each other and thrives on women believing that we must compete with each other resources.

But Team USA is not here for it.
On the latest episode of the Goddesses Rising, we talked about the power and beauty of the Final Five, and how the American pride they inspired can feel at odds with this contentious election season and the reality of police violence in communities of color. We also discussed the whitewashing of Brazil in Olympics coverage and the levels of #blackgirlmagic that permeated the entire games.
