Drones are Freaking Amazing!

I’ve always had an interest in aircraft and things that fly. At school I studied Travel & Tourism, and at University in my first year I studied Air Transport Management.

After deciding the course wasn’t for me, I went into Ergonomics. But I still had the itch to learn more about commercial aviation and things that flew. You’ll find my Quora account filled with Q&As about air travel and space.

Around 3 years back, I heard about these things called Drones, and I wanted in. I found it fascinating that you could own your very own little aircraft. Pretty neat stuff.

After thinking about it for a little while, and without much research I decided to go for the AR Drone 2. It was small, cheap, and didn’t look very technical—perfect for a beginner.

After much fun and many crashes later, my poor little drone gave up on me. I’d crashed it into trees, nearly taken out various people, and had the motors replaced.

I thought this was going to be the end of my hobby.

This week has been strange. Jake and I decided we were going to buy a drone… my hobby was once again alive and I was lucky enough to share it with my co-founder.

We scoured the web trying the find the best option, and decided on the DJI Phantom 4. While the price tag was verging on offensive, and was much more than the hobby drone I went for last time, we went for it anyway.

After clicking checkout on Amazon, the box arrived the next day. We opened the amazing packaging, and the beautiful machine was revealed.

It was much smaller than I was expecting. It was lighter, and it was a marvel. I fell in love instantly. It worked so much better than what I’d had before, and the technology was facinating.

It’s only been a few days, but we’ve had a blast so far and I can’t wait to fly the awesome machine some more.

I’m writing about something that interests me every day for a year. This is day 1 of 365. ✌️
