I’d say the TV example is just one of many reasons that fit doesn’t work out. It is a lens on the issue with startups; that they scale and as they scale the demands and skill sets required for their success are rapidly changing.

With that in mind, it is tough to find talent that can be very good tactically early on, that will also be a solid strategic leader as the startup scales. So if you have a startup CMO that wants to do TV, that already shows that they are better suited for the latter, more strategic execution than for the more tactical DIY stuff needed early on for a startup.
