It totally doesn’t have to be. I imagine many of us did have those limits in our monogamous relationships, but there’s nothing about monogamy that would specifically forbid those; it comes down to each individual relationship — which is the case with everything, I suppose.

Most of the things I wrote here aren’t inconsistent with monogamy, which is partly what I mean when I say that this isn’t really about polyamory, but about a larger life philosophy. At some point monogamy and polyamory begin to diverge within it, but really, they can both fit quite comfortably for most of it.
