Today’s Gospel: Luke 10: 21- 24

“Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,”I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”‘ …

Today’s Gospel:

When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.” He said to him, “I will come and cure him.” The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven. …

This year Advent is going to go by so fast!

Christmas will be here before we know it, and this year will be a particularly short Advent season. Depending on where Christmas falls on the calendar, Advent could be as long as 28 days or as short as 22 days, as it will be this year. The day after we light the fourth Advent candle we will celebrate Christmas day.

Why is it so important to note the brevity of this Advent season? There are no fewer days in December than any other month, but the advent season will be shorter because Christmas falls on a Monday. It means that we have less time to reflect on the significance that each Sunday candle represents…less time to experience the blessings and spiritual growth of the Advent liturgical season. This gives me a sense of urgency to dive deeper spiritually as we expectantly await Christmas day. …

Why is it that so many marriages — despite careful planning, faithful promises, and the best of intentions — end in divorce?

Research often points to inadequate communication skills, lack of education, or insufficient finances as the reason for divorce. So does that mean that if a hardworking couple has amazing communication skills and an impressive investment portfolio the are guaranteed to avoid divorce? Though these factors would certainly be helpful, they are not enough to sustain and support a marriage. A wise builder does not construct his house on top of his tools, but rather on a solid foundation. In the same way, couples should be cautious not to focus solely on feelings, good intentions, techniques, and resources when attempting to strengthen their marriage. …

Pope Francis wrote that there are three essential words in the family: “please,” “thank you,” and “sorry.”

When we use “please,” we are showing respect rather than being overbearing. When we use “thank you,” we demonstrate gratitude and appreciation for what another does. When we have done something wrong, we need to say “I am sorry,” because this helps our families experience peace and joy.

If we want more peace and joy in our homes, we must use these words regularly. If we want to foster respect, gratitude, and forgiveness in our marriages, we must lead by example and say “thank you” and “sorry” often. …
