Marketing AND Communications

When you think marketing and communications what exactly comes to mind?
Usually branding, email marketing, social media posts, blogs, lead magnets, video marketing, landing pages, squeeze pages, membership sites, sales funnels, print advertising, fundraising, the list goes on and on.

Something that I’ve noticed that a lot of Marketing and Communication professionals seem to miss is the third word in the title.

Communications

As marketers we concentrate on the front end of the communications platforms, like social media, blogs, websites, auto responders, CRM ect. Have you ever stopped to think about this in more depth? How do these platforms operate? Yes by the internet, but how is the internet delivered to a business so they can COMMUNICATE.

I have an extensive background in Data and Voice Communications, working as an Asset/Project manager, a data and voice technician and as a telecommunications technician. The delivery method has long since been the Telstra copper network here in Australia. In the last few years we have seen the National Broadband Network start to roll out a new fiber optic network, which in part is mostly a colossal mess of a project in terms of budget and in it’s execution.

So whats my point in all this?

The way in which businesses can communicate is going to improve because of this back end infrastructure. More bandwidth equal faster speeds, faster upload times and the ability to produce and distribute content faster. Faster uploads and distributions means that you can get your message out to your viewers and customers a lot faster. This also means the type of content you will be able to produce and distribute will change dramatically.
Video marketing will increase because of the increase in upload times meaning your marketing message will have more impact to your customers. This is just the nature of video. Video advertising has always worked. Just look at television. However with social media, it has made video advertising a lot cheaper to invest and produce. With this added infrastructure in place it will mean you can put your powerful marketing message out into the social media world a lot faster. The point is just go out there and start creating your video marketing strategy!

This is still a little while away yet, as the NBN are very slow and unorganized with their roll out. However if you start producing this type of content today, come tomorrow you will have a greater understanding of how to produce this content even faster and with greater impact.

If you would like to learn how to get a head of this new technology please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would love to help your business adapt to this new delivery….
