Life is Like a Ship

just float

“A life with no goal is like a ship with no rudders.”

My first reaction after reading that quote was “Dang, I better get a set-in-stone, long term goal!” But after thinking about it for just a bit longer I have come to realize that embarking a journey on a ship with no rudders seems thrilling- and dangerous. Let me explain. I ventured off on a ship with no rudders , impulsively, and was scared out of my mind! But after a little while on the ship I realized something. I realized that I am perfectly okay and well where I am for the moment, on the ship floating to an unknown destination that only a higher power knows where I will be ending up. “What if we are to get in a storm and sink”, I asked myself. “Or what if we land on a tropical island in the Bahamas and enjoy ourselves a mojito or two while enjoying an ocean view on a warmed, smooth-white sandy beach”. Option two sounds much better. Imagine now… Sitting on the ship with our supply of food and water, and no land to be seen.

What now? What if I run out of food before I find land? What if I die in a storm? What if… “STOP!” I told myself, “What if I land on the island with mojito’s”? I realized in my thoughts that “Every situation throughout my life, your life, and everybody’s life can have a million what if’s”. I realized then, at that moment, that the only solution to overcome the what if’s is to have faith in the universe that I will end up where I am meant to be. After my epiphany, I reassured myself that I need to stop worrying and just breath. And let the universe pan out my journey, here on earth, for me.

With all of my thinking time on the ship it became clear to me that this metaphor of the ship with no rudders is like my life, your life, and everybody’s life. Uderstanding that I am a spiritual being having a human experience, I know that I’m here for a reason. I will fulfill my purpose. It may be a rough journey at times, but in life, everybody ends their journey in the same way. There is a reason you are where you are. Whether the reason is to teach you a lesson, expand in your next stage of life, or for you to do what you are here for, there is always a reason.
