For Every Little Thing That Sounds or Looks Similar, It’s Ridiculous to Sue

It’s understandable if someone takes too much of what you have created. There is a difference between being inspired and stealing. If you have made a hit song or a perfect painting, if it has made millions, why worry about the things that are similar to yours after you have made it? For years and years, songs have had similar tunes. For years and years, comic book artists have been inspired by each other. Many artists have been loved that have been inspired by other artists. Other artists that have inspired other artists have been loved. Some of them are the best of friends. So I’m wondering what the problem is now.
I was watching the news, Entertainment Tonight. Robin Thicke had to go to court because his song, Blurred Lines sound similar to Marvin Gaye’s Got To Give It Up. To be honest, the music did sound like Marvin Gaye’s music, but the songs were completely different in tune. Maybe he should be sued for the music and not the song itself.
Sam Smith will have to pay Tom Petty Royalties for his song, Stay With Me. The tune of the song from the beginning does sound alike except Tom’s song is faster than Sam’s. As you listen more, they are really two completely different songs. Both songs have been enjoyed, but I never heard Tom Petty’s song. It may have been a coincidence when Sam wrote his song that it was similar to Tom’s. It is possible. I think every song writer has probably made a tune and didn’t realize that it sounded like something they might have heard before.
Now that artists are suing one another, this is going to go on forever and too much. I think it’s ridiculous. People are going to start suing for every little thing that’s similar. Especially those that have no money. They will sue just because. No one should sue unless something is completely stolen from them and over the borderline of similar.
