A Letter to the Teens of Today Regarding Social Media & Your Health
Philip Kasumu

Nice article, Phil. Completely agree that things like body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is growing ever-prevalent with young men, as well as women. And social media / instagram / celebrity culture is playing it’s part. It feels like we’ve gotten so “used” to seeing airbrushed images/instagram filters that this is adding to our unrealistic expectations of what it is possible to look like! The other issue is that — whether I like it or not — I have certain genes and a certain body shape… therefore, I am never going to look like “The Rock”, no matter how much effort I put in at the gym, or with my diet! I’m content with looking and, more importantly, “feeling” healthy now — the endorphin release and the benefits on the mind outweigh the physical-appearance benefits.
