There are a few key steps to saving your Kusama on a Ledger hardware wallet using the Polkadot-JS extension. By following this guide carefully, you can set up a safe, hack-proof environment for your KSM holdings.

To fix this

Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:

  1. Ledger Live for Windows 10/11
  2. Ledger Live for MAC
  3. Ledger Live for Android
  4. Download the Polkadot-JS extension

Visit the Ledger Live website and click on “Extensions”. Install the “Polkadot-JS” extension using the search bar. This will allow your Ledger Nano S or X to interface with the Polkadot network.

Create a Ledger wallet for Kusama

Open the Kusama app on your Ledger device. Press the OK button to select “Create a new wallet”. Choose Kusama (KSM) as the asset type and press OK to confirm. Follow the on-screen prompts to generate a new wallet for your KSM tokens.

Activate the Kusama wallet

With your Kusama wallet selected, press OK to see its access phrase and address. Carefully note down this access phrase — it is required to access your KSM balance.

Send Kusama to your Ledger wallet

Access the website or mobile app of an exchange where you have KSM. Withdraw your KSM balance by sending the tokens to the Kusama (KSM) address listed under your Ledger wallet. Ensure there are no typos to prevent losing your funds.

Your Kusama is now secured on Ledger

Once the tokens have been received into your Ledger wallet, your KSM holdings are safely secured with advanced encryption and offline signing. Your access phrase is the only way to access the funds. Keep it in a safe place in case of hardware or software issues with your Ledger device.

By following these steps carefully, you have taken an important step to securing your cryptocurrency investment. Your Kusama tokens are now protected with the peace of mind that comes from using a trusted hardware wallet.
