10 Free Ways To Get More Subscribers On YouTube

One of the most common questions I get asked is “Can you tell me how to get more subscribers on YouTube?” The answer is yes, yes I can.

There are many different factors that convert a viewer into a subscriber. In this post I will give you 10 free ways to get more subscribers on YouTube. If you use all 10 of these tips, you will see a dramatic improvement on your YouTube channel.

How To Choose A Game To Play On Your YouTube Channel | grow on youtube

1. Niche Down

Focusing your channel around one niche, subject or game will make new viewers much more likely to subscribe to your channel. Imagine you find a YouTube video and you like it so you check out their channel page. If their channel page is full of videos you’re not interested in then you’re probably not going to subscribe.

The fastest way to grow on YouTube is to pick a niche and stick with it — the more specific the better. Instead of having a channel that is focused around “gaming” focus your channel around a genre of game or, even better, one game. Go as targeted as you can while also leaving yourself room to create a variety of content within that niche — so you don’t get burnt out.

2. Create A Content Plan

If you fail to plan then you plan to fail. Instead of just randomly uploading videos you need to upload videos that share a common thread. Create at least 10 videos around the same subject. Use help videos (how-to, tutorials, guides) to bring traffic in and use hub videos (vlogs, livestreams, let’s plays) to convert those viewers into subscribers.

3. Use SEO To Rank In Search Results

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and, in my opinion, YouTube Video SEO is the most important tool for smaller YouTubers who want to grow on YouTube. YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world and SEO is the process of communicating what your video is about to the YouTube search engine gods so that people searching for a video like yours can find your video.

Use Tubebuddy to research the search volume and competition of the videos you plan to create. This will ensure that you make content that gives you the best chance to be seen by many people.

4. Branding

HOW TO GET SUBSCRIBERS ON YOUTUBE FAST

What is your brand promise and value proposition?

Brand Promise:

The promise you make to your viewers and subscribers. What kind of videos are you making? How many times are you going to upload a week? Etc.

Value Proposition:

What kind of value are you giving your viewer? Is your content entertaining, educational or motivational?

Figure out the answers for these questions and write them down. You need to make sure that your brand promise and your value proposition is clear to a new viewer that lands on your channel page.

Can your brand promise and value proposition be identified within 5 seconds of being on your channel?

If they can’t then you’re doing it wrong and you need to make some changes.

You need to give people a reason to subscribe.

Remember that most people will go to your channel page before making the decision to subscribe to your channel. I’ve seen this from my own analytics and the analytics of other channels. Think about how you subscribe to a video: maybe you find a video through the recommended tab or through search results. If you like that video and you’re interested in the channel you’re generally going to go to their channel page to see what other types of videos are on that YouTube channel. That’s definitely what I do anyway.

Communicate your brand promise and value proposition in your channel art. Your channel art is the first thing people will see when they land on your channel so make sure that it counts. I would also suggest including your upload schedule in your channel art but that’s not a necessity.

Also, don’t forget to fill out your channel’s about section. This is another opportunity to give a viewer more information about what they can expect from your channel so make the most of it.

5. Use Playlists

So many people create a YouTube channel and don’t use playlists. Don’t be that guy. It looks unprofessional and messy. You will need to verify your YouTube channel before you can customise your homepage but it is more than worth it.

Create playlists for all your different series/types of content and display those playlists on your YouTube channel homepage. This will make it easy to navigate through and your channel will look more professional. Using playlists this way will also make it easy to see what kind of content you make at a moments glance.

6. Ask People To Subscribe

Don’t waste your viewer’s time by asking them to subscribe at the beginning of your video. You haven’t proved that your channel is worth subscribing to yet. Ask your viewers to subscribe at the end of your video. The viewers that watch through to the end of your video are going to be much more likely to subscribe that the viewers that click away beforehand.

But don’t just ask them to subscribe, you need to give them a reason to subscribe. Let them know what kind of content they can expect in the future e.g “subscribe for more videos about x”. Tell them exactly why they’re subscribing.

7. Link Your Videos

Link your videos to similar videos using cards. This will let your viewer know that you have more content around that subject.

This will make it so when they’re watching one video they will see the title of a similar video pop up in the upper right hand corner. This can also keep a viewer on your channel by getting them to watch more of your videos which will also make them more likely to subscribe.

You should also link to the playlist that your video belongs to in a card.

8) Create A Schedule And Stick To It

People want to subscribe to channels that they know will continue putting out quality content. You need to prove that you can be reliable and consistent if you want to convince a potential subscriber that you’re not just going to quit tomorrow.

Creating a schedule and sticking to it will also help to build trust with potential subscribers as you will be seen to be more reliable.

9. Create A Catalogue Of Videos

You really shouldn’t be worrying about subscribers if you have less than 50 videos. After making 50 videos if you’ve followed the previous steps you WILL see growth. Creating a catalogue of videos should be your top priority.

Create a bunch of quality content around the same theme or subject. This will persuade new viewers to subscribe to your channel if they’re interested in the theme or subject you’re making videos on. This will also help you build your authority around the subject as you will have created a variety of content around it.

This will also give you many chances to create videos that pop off and bring you a bunch of views and subscribers.

10. Get More Views

More views will result in more subscribers. The more people that view your videos, the more people you can convert to becoming subscribers.
