Context

Code Your Dreams is a nonprofit incubator of youth voice, tech skills, and social justice. They empower underserved students to solve community problems through code. Through year-long and Summer intensive programs, Code Your Dreams students become tech leaders, change-makers and social entrepreneurs.

Context

Civic Suds is an organization aiming to fuse a community center with a laundromat to offer guests actionable information and valued skills. By hosting workshops and programs donated by local businesses, Civic Suds will help guests tackle challenges including literacy, health and wellness, and financial stability.

In three weeks, a team of myself and two other UX designers created a mid-fidelity prototype for the client. As the project manager, I led daily scrums and ensured all deadlines were met, in addition to collaborating with the research lead and interaction design lead as necessary.

Objective

To conduct usability tests on the ZigWay mobile app prototype to uncover problems and opportunities in visual and interaction design.

Heuristic Evaluation

First, I conducted a heuristic evaluation of the ZigWay mobile app prototype. This was done by analyzing the prototype in the categories of Learnability, Efficiency, Memorability, Error Management, and Satisfaction. For each, I assigned a score from 1–5 and explained reasons behind each assessment. This evaluation was useful as a jumping off point. From here, I would conduct further usability research to support or refute my initial analysis.
