You’re a lecturer of international relations at a well respected university. So, I am confident that you’re familiar with neoliberalism as an economic concept. Knowing the contents of neoliberalism — and its emphasis on transferring public power (especially wealth) into private hands, especially elite hands — how do you think that a typical Democrat and Republican look from the perspective of your neighbors in Iowa? Personally, I think they look more or less the same. Hence, the logic of “let’s try something different.” The problem, of course, is that Trump really isn’t different. Neither is Gary Johnson. Sadly, neither is Clinton. It’s all just a discussion about the pace of neoliberalization. People are seeing through that. They just haven’t seen through Trump yet.
Thanks for reading (and writing).
