What’s in a Cosmopolitan cocktail: Here’s the secret
The Cosmopolitan is one cocktail that has reinvented itself the world over. Here’s what you need to know about pink cocktail culture and how mixologists vary their magic.
Nothing says Saturday night like a world-class Cosmo. Wherever I travel, I make a point to discover its local personality.
As a cocktail enthusiast, I’ve sipped 100+ Cosmopolitans from Singapore to Sydney. What I’ve learned is that each bar has its own twist.
I’m a die-hard fan of the classic Cosmo. It’s refreshing, tart, and delicious.
But creative mixologists have created all kinds of variations, including the champagne Cosmo, Cosmocello, the Blue Cosmopolitan. If you are out Cosmo hunting, you’ll also find super sweet variations that use corn syrup, raspberry syrup, and even maple or simple syrup.
Some Cosmopolitans lean to tart and zesty, others sweet. The Cosmo’s color profile runs the palette of all possible pink hues, from nearly-white to blush to hot pink and ruby red.
I’ve had it served cloudy with micro particles of ice, like floating diamond fragments. Or strained and crystal clear.
