How the Gig Economy Profits Off of Desperation

Nice job. Being on the opposite end of the employment spectrum (i.e. sixty-something, can’t afford to retire but un-hireable on W2) I now go from contract to contract, no bennies, no paid vacation…literally chained to IM so my employer knows I’m at my desk. (I wrote from the Boomer perspective here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeb-harrison/gig-economy_b_12233952.html). I think giggers need to organize to the extent possible and push for a new labor category, somewhere between 1099 and W2. I’ve heard rumblings that Secretary Perez, and hopefully his successor with HRC, are seriously considering it.
