Time
Stops not, waits not, favors none…
Time is a funny thing. It is constant and fair to all. It is not bias against anyone nor is it bias for anyone either. It is simultaneously master of all and yet some seem to have mastered time. It is the great equalizer. These simple truths make it imperative that we live life to its fullest and seek to squeeze every ounce of time that we have.
This is why it pains me to see those around me in those world wasting away hour after hour, day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year striving to attain that which means very little in the grand scheme of things. Men and women are not remembered through history for the possessions that they acquire throughout life, nor for the vast sums of money that they deposit within bank vaults. We are remembered for the people that we impact. The relationships that we cultivate. The accomplishments that affect those around us and whether they are good or bad.
We should seek to live every bit of life as if it is all that matters in that moment and stop wasting our lives focused on some imaginary point in the future that may or may not ever come true.
As one of my favorite authors J.R.R. Tolkien writes,
“This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.”
And this is still true decades later just as it has been for millennia. I challenge everyone to make a concerted effort to utilize their time in a positive and constructive manner within their sphere of influence. We cannot squander the precious amount of time we have been allotted, instead putting it towards small things everyday that make this world a better place.
