Grad School Is Trash for Students of Color and We Should Talk About That

I experienced 8 years of feeling “there yet not there” in college and medical school. Topics related to black people came up frequently and the tone of discussion reminded me of aliens from another planet because that tone was at odds with the real black people I had lived with all my life. I was expected to use this mode in my papers and tests and when I did not do so I was heaped with criticism by my “liberal” professors.
