All, if not most of us have seen this meme…

Good Kermit vs. Evil Kermit

And this one….

Good Kermit vs. Evil Kermit Meme (Overreact)

Or this one…

Good Kermit vs. Evil Kermit Meme ( Ice Drop )

But do we know where it originated from?

Kermit the Frog vs. Constantine Origin

Kermit the Frog is known to be one of the most famous members of the Muppets cast, and has somehow made his way into the world of social media. Not just your average social media, but he has made it into the top trending memes of 2016!

The Muppets came out with a comedy movie back in 2014, titled “Muppets Most Wanted.” In this movie was a scene where Kermit had met a doppelgänger (who just so happened to be evil), named Constantine. Below you will find a video that shows Kermit meeting his look-alike at the 9 seconds mark.

Why did it become famous?

A Twitter user named @aaannnnyyyyaaaa created the first meme that would spark a long line of memes that fled into pop culture.

@aaannnnyyyyaaaa’s tweet that started it all

According to the website “Know Your Meme,” “within 10 days, the tweet gained over 31,800 likes and 22,500 retweets” (Don, 2016). This then sparked many more meme remixes that we have most likely come across in our news feeds.

If we ask why the meme became famous, it seems that the answer lies within each person/ influencer. The meme itself seems versatile and leaves room to many different types of dialogue to be had. As if a blank canvas waiting for each person to make their own personal mark. It is interesting that the meme has become so widespread and so popular, and it is quite entertaining just seeing what creative captions people can come up with.

I decided to see what creative caption I could come up with in relation to course material and this is what I came up with…(hope it isn’t too cheesy).
