Networking 101

We just wrapped our 4-part conversation series on our YouTube channel — and it’s been a blast! We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback and wanted to put all of our tips in the same spot.
Before we get to the video adventures, I have a story. I had a weird conversation with a fellow teacher — she was completely stunned that I taught people how to introduce themselves. The strange thing? She was terrible at conversations and when introducing herself, she comes off as a little harsh and socially awkward. She’s unapologetically herself, which I love, and unaware of her audience, which drives me nuts. So please, if you aren’t aware of how you introduce yourself, just pay attention!
The big elephant in the room with networking and introducing yourself? Listening. Step one in meeting new people, listen:
Ok. So you listened. You got it. You could tell people exactly what they said, and add information to the conversation. How do you show you listen? Easy — yes and!
Now the initial gloss has worn off. What next?! You want to keep talking. What do you do? You start asking open ended questions:
Finally, what happens when you need to bail? Do you sit and feel badly? Nope, you walk away.
Tried any of these tips? Let me know what worked for you!
