Maam! This is my life. This is my experience. You are speaking truth to power. I live in an upper middle class mainly white neighborhood in Maryland and our Trick or Treaters are primarily Hispanic families from nearby apartments. This year, I swore a homeowner ran out of candy right as my niece and nephew walked up to their door but they stayed outside greeting other kids offering them to pet their animotion spider and sneak them candy when we weren’t looking. Meanwhile, I live a block away. I always wonder if my neighbors are judging us as not belonging but I don’t care anymore so long as they aren’t depriving my family candy because they don’t want to give to “outsiders.”
