The Quiet Girl in the Class
Emma Thomas

Thanks for an inspiring read. I too was that quiet girl from a council estate where no one stayed on at school. My special teachers lacked the wow factor you describe but quietly let me know I counted and left me determined to get an education. Now almost 50 years later I’m retired and relish my role as a community volunteer for reading support. They read, I listen, we talk and they slowly gain confidence and become fluent readers. Their joy and mine is extraordinary.
