I spent $120 at coffee shops in 2016. That would do a whole lot of “not much” for me in an emergency. It took me years to establish an emergency fund, and that was with a well paying job and a partner to share expenses. I still get money anxiety despite my current privilege, because even $5,000 isn’t enough savings depending on the emergency. Ugh.
