Frustration and Struggle
Sometimes it’s okay to rest and believe that it’s all going to work out.
Sometimes we doubt God’s purpose. Maybe we’re confident of His existence. Maybe we’re confident in His sovereignty. But we can still doubt that He knows what He’s doing!
Doubting God’s purpose is usually the result of trying to control our own lives. We might say, “Well, if I were God, then this is what I would do. So why isn’t He doing it? I don’t understand!”
I can remember so many times in my life when I knew what I wanted God to do, but He did something else. I look at that now and say, “Well, now I know why He didn’t do that. How awesome that I didn’t have my way back then! Look at how well everything turned out!”
God sees it too. He says, “Yes, I know! I’m God, remember?”
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38–42)
You can trust God. God’s thoughts are not your thoughts. His ways are not your ways. His ways are better than your ways. God created everything! So you can trust that He knows best.
In fact, sometimes you just have lean back. Let yourself fall into His arms, and say, “Okay.”
Be like Mary, who sat at the feet of Jesus. She just sat there and listened to Him. Sometimes it comes to that point. All you can do is sit and listen. Sometimes it comes to that point where all you can do is trust and obey.
Sometimes, as hard as it is, you have to simply believe that it’s all going to work out.
If you’re struggling with something, then go and sit at His feet. Tell Him, “Okay. I’ll go with you on this. I’ll believe in this.” Then see what happens. All you need is the faith of a mustard seed.
