On Minor Parties
With the election finally taking place next weekend, dissatisfaction with the two major parties at an all time high and the senate ballot sheet bigger than ever, I thought it was worth giving a little bit of advice on the minor parties.

It’s really pretty simple – DON’T VOTE ON THE NAME ALONE.
Here’s a couple of prime examples:
Australian Health Party. Sounds pretty good right? Let’s make national health a priority. Nope they’re anti-vaxxers
Sustainable Australia Party. All aboard for more renewable energy? Nope – they want to close down the borders and massively scale back immigration.
The Liberal Democrats. Kinda like the liberals? Kinda like democracy? Surely this is your go-to protest vote. Well not so much – unless you want to significantly loosen gun controls.
Family First. Families are great! Sure let’s put them first. Except that these guys only really care about a very narrow description of family and go out of their way to discriminate against everyone else.
In short, if you’re gonna lodge a protest vote, tread carefully. And if you really would rather just vote on the name alone then look no further than the Sex Party who (as far as I can tell?) actually seem to have some pretty sensible policies.
Let me know what you think. Will you vote for a minor party?
