A Designer’s Guide to Gift Giving

A gift should be a thing and a story. I like that. The author recommends “telling a story” with a gift.

I gave our building’s cleaning person some nailcare products. Then I told her how hard I see her working—holding the door, sometimes helping me carry my cat kennel, groceries, and baby’s things. I told her how much it means to me.

I just told her these products will keep her nails lovely for weeks, which seems they’re not enough—when I compare to how lovely she is all the time.

But that’s why we give the story with the gift, right? Is the story like the tissue paper, fluffing up the presentation? Or is it more than that?

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
