A chilling frost so crept the night

A chilling frost so crept the night,

Through valley streams and beds alike;

Down in the thick, a blanket veil,

And o’er it formed the water stale.

The sun, to shine in morn of light,

So stills the gnawing, toothless bit,

Where icy hearts froze cold within

The blood comes free to pump again.

Away it floats, so free of mass,

Now wild may it grow, the grass,

When night, from darkness, falls aground

The frost once more, to waters drown.
